Welcome to TMG Bill,
TMG is my 3rd genealogy program and I really like it.
I am pretty comfortable getting around my PC and I love to learn new
things on it. I can understand that you might think TMG is difficult to
learn, but I think that feeling is not necessarily true.
TMG is extremely flexible which enables it's users to do just about
anything they want to do with it. It has lots of options and capabilities
that I have chosen not to tackle yet while I'm still getting comfortable
with the program. You might want to leave some of these capabilities alone
for a few weeks/months until you feel comfortable with the more basic
functions.
For example, I am not doing anything about any of the sentence
structures. For now I'm just not going there. I also am not doing anything
about roles. At this time I'm not sure what they're for or what to do with
them, so I'm just ignoring them.
I'm really happy about all the tags I can enter on my people that give
me a wonderful timeline of all the information I have about my people. I
used to maintain a separate WORD document on everyone that showed me exactly
what the TMG person view (PV) shows me.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, TMG can get as complex as you want it
to get. Or you can keep it fairly simple by just not dealing with it's more
complex capabilities.
There, List. How was that for an encouraging message to Bill?
I also use XP and in case you have heard that XP and TMG don't like each
other, that is not true. They work very well together. When you do your
upgrade be sure you set it up in the advanced mode and do not lock your
project.
Welcome to the list.
