You have perceptive and well-informed friends and relatives!

We prefer to think of it as 'feature-rich'. Seriously: it's a powerful
program, but you can use it quite well right out of the box.

Search the archives
(http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Software/TMG.html) for tips from FTM
users who have transferred. The big tip is to use direct import
(GenBridge) from your FTM data file, rather than using GEDCOM. From what
I've heard, one thing to watch for with the FTM import is that FTM puts
freeform notes in funny places, particularly in place fields.

If you're not familiar with v4, and you don't have an urgent need for all
the forms of output, then it's probably worth your while to do the upgrade
rather than spending time learning the old program then the new in rapid
succession (says Joe who's still using v4 even though he has v5). They're
similar in operation, but different enough that there is a transition.
If v4 was purchased recently, you may be eligible for a free upgrade to
v5. Do contact WG directly to find out.
And my favorite tip:
Do data entry in the order Repository > Source > Data. That way you
encourage yourself to have a source for each and every scrap of information
you enter.
