Me too. I think it should only use the date if there is one. Otherwise
the date should be considered NULL.

If blank and irregular dates comparing as if they are before any regular
date is to be considered a bug, I would be overjoyed. I have many
filters which are overly complex to get around this limitation. Another
sticky condition is a date range, is between 1840 and 1860 before 1850
or not, it really is a question of the purpose of the filter (are we
looking for MUST be before, or just MAY be before).

I have been testing this and found that if there is an event with an
empty
date that it is considered to be before 01 Jan 1851 and therefore is
included in the filtered report. This should not be happening an I will
report it to the developers.
