I have been waiting for TMG 5 to be finished to submit a suggestion to
Whollygenes to add a genealogical format which is the most common standard
(with variation in details) in Swedish and Finnish publications. It was, as
far as I can tell, first used by the 19th century Swedish genealogist
Gabriel Anrep in his edition of the genealogies of the Swedish nobility,
and at least one Swedish genealogy program calls it the "Anrep format". It
includes biographical details on the individuals.
In _Släkt och Hävd_, a Swedish journal which has been published since 1950
and which I am presently editing, this is the format we prefer when
appropriate (for multi-generational presentations with biographical
details). It is also the standard in the leading Finnish genealogical
journal _Genos_ (published since 1930). The latter has a website with many
of the old articles. A couple of examples of the Anrep format can be seen here:
http://www.genealogia.fi/genos/23/23_79.htm
http://www.genealogia.fi/genos/31/31_3.htm
The Anrep format is available in some otherwise much simpler programs, and
I know from communication with Swedish genealogists that its unavailability
is an important factor in deciding against buying TMG. Compared to the USA
or UK, it may not be a huge market, just a hundred thousand genealogists or
so (most of whom might not buy TMG anyway, for various other reasons), but
I still hope it may be of interest to Whollygenes to make this addition. I
don't think the programming involved can be overwhelming.
I am sure there are many other report formats which people would like to
see available. Once TMG 5 has finally been finished within the present
scope of the project, could we perhaps get an "international" report update?
