Subject: [TMG] TMG GEDCOM handling of source elements
Date: Tue, 1 Jul 2003 05:10:17 EDT
I am sorry (very sorry) to report I cannot send Jim a backup file for
analysis.
Retesting in order to send it, I find that my WEST project is today exporting
a GEDCOM which conforms to TMG. Including the source entries that previously
preserved my precious fields.
The gedcom headings of the two exports look to me identical. It could be that
creating that new (Dummy) source record - my first new source record in that
data set, necessitated reindexing and optimisation which "got rid" of
conserved source field data from Generations. But I am really sad.
Yes, Terry and Lee sorry, you are right I thought that not checking the
citation reference field meant I did not include the repositories - which were
lacking from the wierd GEDCOM.
Thank you for explaining about Mills. I dont think I will be using her. I am
in the UK, use my own simple system of source types and fields. And I dont
think time-wise I can hope to alter everything.
Although it is not possible to analyse what went "wrong" with my exports from
this dataset. I do appreciate the help I have had. As a new user it is
impossible to distinguish between user error, normal behaviour in the programme and
quirks which mean my results differ from those of people who are trying to
help me. I realise TMG 5 is still under development - but the stress has been
considerable. I am not cut out for beta testing.
