I remember the pure voice of Joan Baez singing an old Appalachian song:

North Carolina I did roam ...

And then there was my mother's story about some woman my parents met on a
trip asking them where they were from. My father was from Virginia. My
mother was from West Virginia. "Oh! How nice, you're both from the same
state." <grin>
