East Virginia apparently refers to that portion of Virginia that remained
Virginia after West Virginia became a state. My gt gt grandfather's birth state
was East Virgina on both the 1880 and 1900 censuses. The 1880 was taken in
Iowa and the 1900 in Washington so it wasn't a census taker quirk.
