Hi, Carol:
The range of possibilities is from:
January 1594 (turned 59 in January 1653)
the record would refer to the part of January before his birthday
to:
December 1595 (turned 58 in December 1653)
the record would refer to the part of December after his birthday
You can of course make it more precise, to the day, but the principle is
the same. This determines the range, ergo the two years you were looking for.
