I agree, but I would have used different words. To say that TMG5 only backs up "the most fundamental genealogical data" is a little misleading. Indeed, it backs up ALL the data and a lot besides. What it doesn't backup is certain program and report configurations which one could reconstruct if one had to but it would be time consuming and a pain in the neck. For those of us who like to customize everything to our own eccentric preferences (and a lot of TMG users are like that) ... we would like to preserve the product of those efforts. They represent, in some cases, hours of planning and designing -- work we wouldn't want to lose.
