When you merge four projects that each have one dataset, the result is
one project with four datasets - the datasets are not merged.
(Actually, you also have the other three projects with one dataset
each left unchanged).

After you have the project with 4 datasets, open that project and use
Dataset Manager (on the File menu) to merge the individual projects if
you want.

You might want to do this on a copy of the project, so you can have
both the 4-dataset version and the single dataset version to
experiment with and see which arrangement you like best.
I have been trying to merge some data sets and I am having a terrible time.
I get duplicate sources for the same project, flags that operate differently
depending on the dataset and a bunch of other problems. I've restored my
database about 4 times. (I do have another copy, but so far restoring is working.)
I just want the program to work the way the old merge worked. I have a
collateral line with a lot of descendants. I want to add it to my main database
and merge the ancestor. I want everything to be in database 1. Is there a way
to do this?
