Dennis,
Then I would use a different tag. <G> Since they have started the
PROBATE process, I would probably use the PROBATE tag, or create a new
one called PETITION to PROBATE. I like to have a separate tag for each
document created by the probate process, so that when I see that he has
a LETTERS OF ADMIN tag, I know that someone applied for their letters of
Administration, but I don't yet have all the rest of the probate papers.
You can also have INVENTORIES, BILL OF SALES, an ACCOUNTING OF HEIRS
(which I bet you find in those other records) etc. By breaking those
up, I can easily see if I need a document, or if I have found it on a
earlier trip. (Several of the documents may be found in the same file
folder, or will book). The probate process takes a while. Sometimes
many months pass. During that time, people involved can die, and that
creates more problems. One will I had was contested because one of the
heirs died and the children sued the father to have the estate redivided
in 5 parts instead of 6.
Some people only use a will tag and a probate tag, but I prefer to
have several since the process takes so long and involves so many
different people. I have them all start with EST so that they all group
together in the Master Tag Type List. This helps me to keep the ones I
have created in my mind. That way if I find I need to create a new one,
I don't forget that I have already done so and named it something
different. (I am in the process of creating different sources for the
many documents too.)

Let me make a correction here. These names show in a Petition for
Probate,
not the Will. An important distinction. They show in the Will as
well,
but I'm trying to sort out how to use the information from the Petition
for
Probate because it specifically states "All children of deceased."
Thanks, Dennis
