Henry,
Does Clooz allow you to add in scanned documents? I am leaning towards
adding an exhibit to each of my sources in TMG. (I use one source per
document) So essentially in TMG, I would then be able to not only know
where to find the source, but could also SEE the source if I needed too
as well. That would (in theory) eliminate the need to have the source
on paper at all. (Assuming I would ever get brave enough to get rid of
the paper documents).
Mainly I would be curious as to what you can store about a document in
Clooz that you can't currently store in TMG? I guess, I would need to
play with it more to see the benefits, and there just isn't that much
more time in the day. <G>

There are three main elements in any genealogical filing system: 1.
type
of document, 2. geographical location, and 3. time. For example in a
census,
there is the type of document census (CEN), the location (New York,
Kings,
Brooklyn), and the time period (1900). The result would be (CEN New York
King Brooklyn 1900). This entry can be divided further by surnames and
then
by number of entries. The end result would look like the following: CEN
New
York King Brooklyn Murphy 0001.
The Clooz program is an electronic filing cabinet which allows you
to
enter the information on a document and then file it away for safe
keeping.
You then use this program to bring up the information instead of pulling
the
physical file. If you do need the physical file it exists and is
relatively
easy to find. The main strength of Clooz is there is only one copy
needed of
any document. It is a document driven filing system while TMG is an
event
driven program.This saves filing space and effort, especially when new
information is added.
Clooz does not replace a genealogical program such as TMG. Clooz
does
help in finding and entering information. It is especially strong in
allowing potential relatives to be entered.
The filing system used in Clooz can be used in the Reference Fields
of
TMG and in the labeling of the physical files.
Yes it is time consuming to enter the data into Clooz. But it is
also
time consuming to use TMG. In fact, genealogical research is time
consuming.
The combination of TMG and Clooz allows a level of organization that is
almost impossible to duplicate. The combination is like the old
commercial
for an oil company's motor oil which shows an engine being rebuilt
because
the oil had not been changed: "you can pay me now or you can pay me
later"
was the company's statement. A person can spend a lot of time using both
programs now or they can spend even more time in the future trying to
find
the desired documents and information.
