Theresa,
To some extent it depends on the state and county (some are more detailed
than others), but any order issued by the county court should be there.
This is more comprehensive than it may sound because in Virginia the county
court was the county's governing body, not just a judicial body in the
modern sense. So, for example, the order books will include such things as
ordering an estate admitted to probate, orders to lay out or repair roads
(very useful, although some counties have separate road order books I
think), and orders to summon named individuals for jury service. At least
in Bedford Co, VA, almost the only way to find a chancery court file (other
than dumb luck; they aren't indexed) is to find a mention of the litigation
in the order books, which will give the file number.

Subject: [TMG] OT Court Order Books
I am working on several timelines for Chesterfield County Court Order books.
I know they were available for the time period my husband's ancestors lived
in Chesterfield County, but does anyone know where I can find what type of
information that these Order books would contain. I would like to add that
information to the timeline so that I can remember later. <G>
