Greg,
Terry and Myrnice answered these questions but I will add my two cents. SS
supports TMGs citations and sources, and it also supports tag, citation, and
source memos. I am not sure exactly what you mean by "notes". SS supports text
exhibits and external image exhibits.
There is no explit size limitation, but as Myrnice mentioned, if the size of the
generated web site exceeds the size of a CD, you'll have trouble sending it to
someone else. I think the only realistic way to exceed the size of a CD would be
if you had many image exhibits.
SS doesn't produce a journal report, though the information content is quite
similar. The biggest difference is the sequence: SS can report on multiple
disjoint family lines and therefore it does not put the individuals in
generational sequence. SS creates indexes to every person in the site, and it
supports ancestor and pedigree charts to show the family relationships. Names in
the narrative and entries in the charts are clickable links, so it is easy to
traverse from on person to another in a family, or indeed, to any person
associated to another person via a shared event.
The best way to see what SS does (or can do) is to browse some of the example
sites. You can get to them via the examples page on my web site:

Hope this helps.
John
