I have had problems with Optimize in a very similar situation. Reindex
however fixed the problem.

I know that Optimize also reindexes but it appeared to me that because of
the indexing problem Optimize had problems before it got to the reindexing
and because of the problems it never got to the point where it would have
reindexed.

If Optimize runs to completion I assume it will have fixed the problems. If
it does not run to completion be sure to run Reindex.
