Hi, Walt:

Second Site provides for "secondary indexes" of persons, based on flags. I use this feature to create "place indexes". I use the [POSTAL]=[L8] place field in that process. I *never* output the [POSTAL]=[L8] field itself.

(Note: The label "Postal" is a relic of previous experimentation and modification of place labels, etc. during transfer from TMG 4.0d to TMG 5. There is no particular significance to that label now.)

1. Create a unique value in the "Postal" field for each Master Place List (MPL) record that I consider to be part of the "place" to be indexed. For example, in my MPL for Weathersfield (Town), Windsor County, Vermont I have records (each of which has [L8] set to "WTHFDVT" no quotes) with the following in the [CITY]=[L3] field:

Amsden, Weathersfield
Ascutneyville, Weathersfield
Downers, Weathersfield
Perkinsville, Weathersfield
Weathersfield
Weathersfield Bow, Weathersfield
Weathersfield Center, Weathersfield

2. In the Custom Report Writer (CRW) in TMG 4.0d, I have created a report "List of all people connected to place X". Focus is the Filtered Group "Any Event Group(s) Place L8 - Equals - WTHFDVT". Secondary Output is to the flag WTHFDVT. I run this report once for each new flag created to make a new index in Second Site. After that, I maintain the flag for each person during data entry. The report can be rerun anytime I suspect I may have missed setting the flag for someone, of course.

Note-1: I tried using similar reports with Filtered Groups with multiple lines of "Contains" in the [CITY]=[L3], and [STATE]=[L5] fields, and had all sorts of troubles.
Note-2: I look forward to using the tools in TMG 5 to set the flag.
Note-3: Using the same name for the value in [POSTAL]=[L8] as for the flag is for convenience only.

3. In Second Site, in Pages --> Lists --> Custom Indexes I have defined a flag-based index for WTHFDVT=Y.

Does that answer your question to your satisfaction?

Darrell
