Another thing you might want to do is use John's utility to create a new
name varient for each of the Van Hoosan's so that they sort both under Van
Hoosan and Hoosan. That works great for names where the presurname was
later dropped.

The simple way is to put the whole name in the surname field. Is the
"Van" now in the given name field?
There are some other options. There is a "pre-surname" field where you
could enter the "Van" but it is not used by the default name styles,
so you would have to create a custom name style to have it index as
you want. Actually, the main intent of the pre-surname field is to do
the opposite, that is allow the name to print as Van Hoosan but index
as Hoosan.
