Because the folks that defined the styles for the three journals whose
styles TMG follows didn't think they were appropriate, I'd suppose.
You'd have to ask them.
The three pre-defined styles differ only in the selections under
Format on the Miscellaneous tab. If you change the style on the
General tab, then look at the options selected in the Format box on
the General tab, you can see this. In each case, TMG is attempting to
create a report according to the styles adopted by that journal.
By choosing Custom, you are allowed to pick any combination of Format
settings, without regard for whether or not those settings are part of
one of the three journal's styles. It allows for you to "mix and
match" settings used by the three journals, or in some cases, like
Spouse Events, and BMDM events not limited to the first paragraph, use
formats not used by any of the three journals.
