I do that too Lee. On one of my husband's ancestors, we needed an
approximate time of death. So I followed him through the tax years. In
1862, he paid taxes, in 1863, his administrator paid taxes. So I then was
able to check probate records for 1862-1863 and found his will and probates.
Much easier than searching 10 years of wills that weren't indexed.
This weekend I was looking for my ancestor and found someone I thought could
be him in 1831. The next year in 1832, it was obvious the last name was
Hobbey not Hubbard as I had thought in 1831. Tax lists can help you to
narrow down when a person bought new land, sold land, or died.

Any information I give that you can't find in your version of TMG 5.1 is
probably due to customization on my part.

Agreed. My 3G-GF is noted in the Montgomery Co, KY Tax Lists nearly every
year from 1811 until he died in 1870. I have a Tax List Tag for each
entry. But I also have each Tag Sentence marked as Excluded so that it
doesn't print unless I want it. Then I have a single Tax List Tag with the
year range of 1811-1870 entered and in the Tag Memo I note those years he
is not shown and/or there is no tax list. This produces a single sentence
in a report that is much less boring.
