Thanks, Jill, for your reply and affirmation that I am finally getting
my head around this!

I very well may be making this harder than it has to be, which is why
I'm trying to be very careful and methodical about setting this up and
walking through it all before implementing it in TMG. The reason I'm
going after this is to incorporate appropriate wording in the place
style itself--using "at" or "in" for *all* places just doesn't work to
my satisfaction. Using exclusion markers can get me to the point of
which elements are output, which works just fine, but they still don't
address the issues of the lead-in to the place information in the sentence.

The reason I thought I should start getting into the habit of using F2
to enter places was that I don't want to accidentally change a place
style, since TMG gives no warning that such a thing has been done.
