Jill, I don't think there is anything wrong with your understanding
your sentence works fine for me. Just to be sure - the sentence you
posted is for the Men-father role, right? And the narrative you are
looking at is for him? When I try that, I get just what you are
expecting.

Did you copy and paste the sentence? I'd suspect the one being used
actually says [P1FS] instead of [P2FS], based on the result you see.
Since the bride and groom are placed correctly in the output, they
can't be reversed. Other than that, I don't have any ideas what's
wrong.
