Stuart,
What I did was create a name tag for each census year (a little over done,
but you know me.) Then on the add person screen I added those name tags at
the bottom using SETUP. Now when I am adding a new person from the census,
I can create their name tag at the same time.

Any information I give that you can't find in your version of TMG 5.1 is
probably due to customization on my part.

Subject: [TMG] Add-a-Name Express

I'm entering a census record. I've linked the household members as
witnesses. But Mary Carrick is listed in this census as Molly Kerrick. It
would be incorrect for a report to say that the household included Mary
Carrick, so I need to close the census tag, go to Mary Carrick, add a Molly
Kerrick name tag, then go back to the census tag and find Mary and select
Molly for her name for that tag. Isn't there an easier way?

a. I could change the tag sentence to indicate the household included
persons "identified as ..." so that I wouldn't necessarily have to list the
name as written. (I've considered that option -- it would simplify tag
entry, and the name-as-written is in my citation detail anyway for reference
-- but the sentence would be rather awkward.)

b. or maybe Bob could add an Add-a-Name Express feature, whereby one could
"Add a name-tag for this tag". I know that from a programming viewpoint this
is a little tricky -- adding a tag from within a tag -- but it sure would
make life simpler. The feature would have to be available for all principals
and witnesses within a tag, and it would by default select the newly-entered
name tag(s) for the event being entered, and link the same citation to the
nametag(s) also.
In practice, the drop-down list of names for each principal/witness
would include "add new name", or else there would be a button beside the
name field for adding a new name.

Anybody else like this idea?
