Tim,
You should be able to add Marriage events with the Add Events feature in TMG Utility. I suggest you experiment on a copy of your project and make sure you are happy with the results before you do anything to the production version of your project. The "Log Only" feature can help, but I think actually adding the events to a copy of the project is a better idea. That way, you can inspect the results in TMG to make sure you are happy with the results.
I'd also suggest you define a new custom event in the Marriage Group and add events of that type. You can always change them to standard Marriage tags later. If they are a separate type, you can operate on them as a group.
