My suggestion would be to first scan an item , such as a will, and attach it
as a exhibit to the source defined for the will, then add the text
transcription to the description/memo section of the source record.

Don't bother with too much formatting for the text as you will have the
original (scan) available to look at.

I put my wills, etc in the memos and haven't had any problem. It does make
my
TMG file size larger but I can use TMG's formatting and generate reports
from
TMG to my word processor.

I'm not sure why you had problems with crashing but I wouldn't convert the
memos to exhibits
