Conversion instructions for an existing data set to the UK version?
Applying the UK update to a TMG installation has absolutely no effect on an
existing data set.
If you add a new data set to that project, it will be using the UK features.
If you create a new project, it will be using the UK features.
Jim
Hi Jim,
From the TMG web site:
Applying UK customisations to an existing data set
As noted above, the setting of new default tag types, name styles, place
styles, and source categories does not affect existing data sets in any way.
Those new defaults are only applied to data sets that are subsequently
created.
To add those customised data types to an existing data set, you must make
sure that you have plenty of valid backups and then perform the steps
described below. All of these functions are performed from the Data Set
Manager which is accessible from the File menu.
1. [Add] a new data set called, e.g., "New stuff".
Leave all boxes unchecked.
2. [Merge] it with your data set(s) using these settings:
Data set A: Your data set
Data set B: New Stuff
(x) Merge B to A (Data set B remains intact)
3. [Delete] the "New stuff" data set.
Note that some of the new tag types, styles, or source categories may have
the same function and/or similar names as those that you previously created.
In each such case, you may want to merge them or delete one of the redundant
records.
Reverting to the Standard (U.S.) Edition
Having converted to the UK Edition, it is possible to revert to a standard
(U.S.-oriented) installation, effectively undoing the most significant UK
customisations. The program language will be reset to "English (U.S.)", the
original help file will be restored, and any new data sets from that point
forward will use default tag types, styles, and source categories. Like the
earlier conversion, the removal of the UK customizations will not affect
existing projects in any way.
Selecting the Sample project from the welcome screen will open the default
project but the UK Sample project will remain on disk and may be deleted
manually. Chapman codes and UK-oriented timelines are also not deleted.
To revert to the Standard (U.S.) Edition:
1. Download http://www.whollygenes.com/files/install_us.zip. If you don't
know how to deal with a zip file, then download and execute the
self-extracting version of the file instead.
2. Unzip that file, placing the contents directly into the TMG program
folder.
3. Restart TMG.
When the change is successfully applied, the splash screen and Help>About
window will revert to saying "Gold Edition" or "Silver Edition."
Doug.
