I have taken on board the 'possibility' of a lack of resources on my m/c,
although I thought that by buying a new 'state of the art' computer and
operating system I would be over that problem <g>
I located and ran Control Panel > System Properties > Advanced > Performance
Options > Advanced , I changed from Programs to Background Services for
Processor Scheduling. This appeared to sort things out, according to the
monitor resources never seemed to get near to 80% usage and the Virtual
memory never went past 250 Mb. For 4 hours I have had no 'grey-outs'. I then
also closed down my Firewall and my a/v software and reassigned the
Processor Scheduling could this have also been a problem as suggested by
John Davis (that my a/v Prog. was working in the background). I have a
dial-up connection and so I can enable it before I reconnect to the outside
world, but surely this can't be an acceptable situation. I hope to connect
to the internet using Broadband soon, so will require my a/v connected at
all times.
Any further advice would be very welcome.
