I ran into the same problem when I converted from Reunion for the Mac to
TMG. I found the Citation Report helped resolve those problems.

Click on Reports, go to List of..., click on Citations. Add a filtered
group. I generally use 'Source Number' in the first field, Operator would be
= Equal, and the Value would be the number of the source you want the list
of citations, then click OK. Then Print and Save. You will get the number
of the citations associated with that source number first, and then the list
of citations.

Hello,

Well, I'm still experimenting with the settings for opening a Roots IV
database in TMG and I think I see what is happening. Where ever I had an
event footnote in R4, TMG turns it into a 'source', so that I see it in my
Master Source List. But when it is a line like, "he died after a long
illness", that makes no sense as a source. At the same time I cannot see to
whom it is referring, at least as far as I can tell.

Does this make sense? Would going back to the old R3 file make more sense,
or would it come out the same? Is there a setting that I'm missing that
would make this import better?

The more I play, the more I like the program, but would like to be sure of
minimizing the footnote import issues before I buy. I've also looked at
Legacy and Roots Magic because I really like how they handle pictures, but
that is not as important to me as having a clean, accurate database.

Well, back to it.

Laurie,

I used Roots3 for a number of years and was very happy with it. But the

time had come to move on. Recently, I have been moving over to TMG
4.0d,
beginning with one of my
databases.Ididtheimportandfoundthatfor
the most part everything was imported as I would have wanted.

One exception was that in my Roots3 notes, I had included citations of
the
Roots3 ID number of persons, and these were not well handled. For
example,
for the "Born" item, I might have included in the Note, "Named for mat
grandmother 00499, & grt aunt 00495". In Roots3 reports, the two
numbers
are recognized as references to the names of the persons specified and
this
would yield the names of those persons in the reports. I found that in
the
TMG import, in all cases, the imported number was not identified with
the
person, but was just imported as a number. Of course, this required
manual
clean-up after importing. Otherwise, the process went rather well.

I still had to do a certain amount of refinement in order to sequence
events properly, and to achieve other effects which resulted from the
richness of TMG in handling details, but I expected this to happen.

After a bit more experience with this first data base, I will soon
import
my other data bases, one by one, and continue with their clean-up.

Good luck with your efforts.
