Kevin

I have made Excel spreadsheets similar to the ones listed there, but not nearly as many, nor the variety.
I find them very helpful, especially the pre-1850 census spreadsheets to "see" the aging of a family,
which helps determine which family a person may belong to.

I do have a slight problem with the CensusTools version of the spreadsheets in that there is no place
(that I could see, anyway) for the household/family information, nor the address. It would be easy to add,
obviously.

The other thing that *I* need, and Excel doesn't provide, is a "unique" auto-number assigned to each
individual or record. I would like to be able to sort a set of families by name, for example, and then
re-sort to the households. On my spreadsheets I have added a column on the left in which I manually add an
identifiying number. I also have a column for the TMG number, when I affirm that the person is the same.

The other thing that would be nice, and perhaps one of our gurus on this list can help, is to capture the
information from the header on the census and transfer it directly to a citation or source (depending on
how you do your TMG census) on TMG.

So, my opinion? For $10, I'd go ahead and get the set. I am pretty sure you will be able to modify them to
suit yourself. I may do that myself. I did download them sometime back, but at the time, there was nothing
on his that I didn't already have, so I didn't use them. Now, it looks as if he has added significantly
more items.

All,

I'm curious how many of you use some other method outside of TMG to record census information? I'm
specifically interested in the use of the materials located at: http://www.censustools.com/. I've been
there several times, and since it was mentioned again in Dick Eastman's newsletter this weekend, I thought
I would go back and look again.

Thank you for your time and opinions,
Kevin L. Sholder
