Hi, Jim,
I don't have, and don't plan to buy, FTM 2005, so I cannot comment on that
version. I have FTM v10 primarily because so many others use the program. It
is simply easier to receive files from an FTM user via the program.

FTM v10 will correctly find that a father/son are also cousins if the son's
great-grandparents (father's grandparents) are 1C. FTM also correctly
reports that this son is, to himself, 4C, 9C and 11C. (The last two come from his
mother.) I haven't tested FTM v10 for 2C, etc. I also know that a similar
problem exists in Legacy. Jim, have you checked FTM 2005 to determine if it
will find a cousin relationship between father/son in my example?

I would like to reiterate an earlier comment. The help index states that
"all" blood relationships will be calculated and we now know that is not
happening. If the programmers cannot change the algorithm to find "all" blood
relationships as stated in the help index, then the help index and (eventually)
the user's manual should be revised and include an explanation of what
relationships will be calculated. The "all blood relationships" phrase in the help
index should also be stricken. To do otherwise would be unintentionally
misleading and confuse the user.

Finally, TMG is so superior to other programs. I do wish that TMG would
revisit this issue and revise/improve the relationship algorithm.
