I'm running the same hardware and have no problems with accents in the
expanded Picklist, with over 15,000 people in the dataset and 7 accent
conditions. It seems near instant for me. Also worked OK with my older
computer.

Are you using accents based on filters, rather than on flags? That is
a lot slower. If you are, you can create custom flags, set them once
with the List of People report, then change the accents to use the
flags. The accents work much faster when they don't have to recompute
the conditions each time.
