Pat -

Tracing your lineage is important to you or else you would not do
genealogy.

DAR is a lineage organization for women. They honor the families by
tracing the descendants of the men and women who put their lives and
fortunes on the line for American freedom. Membership into DAR is
limited to women, men can belong to the Sons of the American Revolution
(SAR).

The DAR are not discriminatory against adoptions, they are lineage
specific and thus limit their membership to those women do the genealogy
and prove their ancestry from those men and women.

Subject: Re: [TMG] Adoptions

MY son is adopted. He is listed as our child at 33 years old. His
record
says he is adopted. He is legally and morally and heartfully our child
and
that is what I put down. Any less is to make him second class. If and
when he
chooses to seek his birth parents I will help but not be real joyful.
Then
there names and data will go in the notes as birth parents. We are so
thankful they gave him birth. Since our son is expecting his first
child a son
this week he may want the data we have had in our safe deposit box for
him. He
knows it is there since he was 13. He knew he was adopted before he
could
coo. He knows he is loved despite many personal tragedies that he has
conquered with his programs. Many do go that path unfortunately.

Though we are members of SAR and DAR and his son will qualify through
his
mother I am still outraged that these societies don't accept our
children. Why
would I adopt if not to share all that I have with him?

One mother's opinion. Pat
