OS/NS and Julian/Gregorian are two different things.
Old Style means the year started on 25 Mar. New Style means the year started on 1 Jan.
The difference between Julian and Gregorian is "what is the date for a particular event". The birth of George Washington was recorded as 13 Feb 1731 in the Julian calendar, Old Style. In 1752 when most of the British empire went from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar and at the same time from Old Style to New Style, his birth date became 22 Feb 1732 as we know it today.
In 1752 there was a 10 or 11 day difference between the Julain and Gregorian calendars.
Most dual date date conversions do not take into account the 11 day difference between the Julian and Gregorian calendars. TMG only does the OS/NS conversion.
If you see a death record in the latter years of the 18th Century which states xx yrs yy mo and zz days and the birth would have been before 1752, you have to be careful as to what the birth date actually was.
For Joan Lince, look in catnyp or the Circulating NYPL catalogues for Julian and Gregorian. I am sure there are lots of books and articles on them.
