I use the Detail field for the Civil District. Just remember if you use one
of those for something else it is going to create a different place.
I usually put the house number, enumeration district and supervisor's
district in the source information. I have found using the Civil District
for the place very handy in Tennessee, since the county clerk tended to use
those same districts for recording other records. Some of the places I use
in KY do too.
Here's my place style:
<in the [District]>< of [County], ><[State], ><[Country], ><[Postal],
><[Phone], ><[LatLong], ><[Temple]>
I don't use the Postal, phone, latlong or temple fields.
This gives me John Doe was enumerated on the 1850 census in the 5th Civil
District of Rutherford County, TN. I can then go to the MPL and look at
events attached to the 5th Civil District and get a list of individuals who
would probably be recorded on the same deed or will records, so it does come
in handy.

Subject: [TMG] Census place labels
I am considering creating a place style for US censuses.
What I would like to do is make use of the Postal, Phone, LatLong, and
Temple fields for entries more meaningful to censuses. I probably won't have
these print: I just want them to be visible on the tag entry screen to help
me recognize where the person lived more accurately. I want to group similar
census places under one label.
To plan this I need a list of all possible census place labels.
I want to limit this plan to places, not to include relationships,
occupations, etc.
For now, I want to do this for US censuses only.
Off the top of my head I can think of the following:
page / sheet (well, that's a "place", sort of)
household / dwelling / visit #
address (house number and street or road)
Post Office
Ward
Precinct
Civil District
Magisterial District
Enumeration District
Supervisor's District (probably useless)
Division
Township, Village, Hamlet
(and of course the obvious City, County, State, Country, etc.)
Can anyone add to this list? Particularly the smaller divisions for cities
...
