Subject: Initializing an Ahnentafel number
Date: Wed, 04 May 2005 10:11:19 -0400
I wrote the list on this subject about a week ago, but it was apparently
around the time that the list was inactive for one reason or another, and I
got no response.
Here is my problem. I would like to produce a report of all the ancestors
of my great- grandson. The Ahnentafel would be ideal for this. The problem
is that the Ahnentafel report shows each generation in turn: parents, then
all grandparents, then all great-grandparents, and so on. You might think
of this as a series of horizontal layers.
What I would like to do is produce a series of vertical reports. The first
would be for my great grandson, his father, his father's father, etc. Then
there would be one for his mother, her father, etc. And so on.
A series of direct line Ahnentafels would produce this kind of report. But
the problem I would like to solve is to begin each of these reports with an
Ahnentafel number corresponding to the one it would have displayed as part
of my great-grandson's Ahnentafel. Thus, his mother's direct line
Ahnentafel would begin with 3, and go up as 6, 12, 24, etc; his paternal
grandmother would begin with 5 (10. 20, 40, etc) and so on.
But if there is a way to initialize the Ahnentafel number, it has so far
escaped me. I would be very grateful if some one could tell me how to do
this - short of going through every direct line Ahnentafel later and
manually editing the numbers.
If all else fails, could this go onto the wish list for future inclusion?
I suspect the implementation would be relatively simple.
