I think the File Reference method is better if each source definition
corresponds to one file number - if you used the Cref in that case you
would have to enter the same number over and over again, for each
citation.

If you source definitions are more generic, and thus one source
definition corresponds to several file numbers, I think the Cref
method is better - in this case you can't actually use the other
method.
