Yes, they do. I recall my excitement, some years ago, when I found my
G-grandfather with his parents and siblings in the 1850 census,
perhaps the first census record I'd examined. A month or two later the
feeling was very different when I came home from the library after
finding all the children in the 1860 census, each living with a
different neighbor, and the mother and father not to be found. That
was only the beginning of my journey to understand, and appreciate,
more about my father, and perhaps gain a glimmer of understanding of
what drove him to be who he was.
