Yes, the sources for parent/child tags should be those that "prove"
that the child is the child of this parent. Sometimes the same source
documents the parent and child's name, the child's birth date and/or
place, and the fact of the relationship. But often we find evidence
for these items in separate sources. TMG allows you to document the
sources for these items separately, which I believe is not common with
other programs.
Unfortunately, the "standard" report formats don't well accommodate
creating source notes for the relationship tags, thus the confusion
you initially reported when the IN report places the relationship
source notes after those for the name tag.
Second Site, being designed to produce output for a website
environment, uses a slightly different format that (optionally) adds
statements about the parents to each person's report, and attaches the
parent/child tag citations to those statements. I find that much
clearer, and have suggested a similar option for TMG reports to
clarify the source notes, but so far that has not been added.
