No, you are not doing anything wrong. TMG will change the Living Flag
under certain conditions including when _you_ add a Death Tag to a
person. In the case of a merge when one person is Living and the merging
person is not, then you will need to set the Living Flag of the merged
person manually. The reason is that once the Flag is set, TMG will not
reset it - _you_ must do the resetting. TMG is retaining the Flags from
the one person and _assumes_ that the Flags are the same for the merging
person. So if you merged the other direction then you would not need to
change the Living Flag as it would already be set to N.
The whole thing boils down to which direction should you do the
merge. There are often good reasons for merging in either direction. But
merging one direction may be better under certain circumstances for you
than another and that may mean making certain manual changes when you are
finished.
