Hi Teresa and Lee

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my obviously fuzzy posting.

I'm following Lee's good advice and have set up a Practice Project to play
with. What I'm aiming to do is to get to understand and to set up as many
default and custom aspects of TMG as is possible based on a small sampling
of relatives prior to transferring the bulk from PAF 5.2

I think I understand the concept of Tags and basic data entry. It's the
Citations that go with the Tags that I have an interest in and which I
loosely called sources in my posting. In particular I'm referring to the
non-unique repeating words (similar to field labels in Tags) that form the
data input to the Citation.

When adding a New Person there are several sources and Birth Tags that in my
case are relevant for entering birth details. One of these is Birth-Reg
using data from the BMD Index. The person unique data (which may be what I
think you experienced users call sourcing the source) that goes with the
generic (BMD) Citation is very structured and on a spread sheet would have
the inputs labelled Year, Quarter, Reg District, Vol, Page.

My question is can something be set up in the data input to the Citation for
the Birth-reg Tag so that the BMD Index field labels do not have to be
retyped for each new entry. Similarly for other structured sources such as
the Census. (I admit my typing is such that I go to great lengths to avoid
it as much as possible!)

I hope I have now made myself more understanderable

Regards
