Kay,
I know the problem you are talking about but when I just tried to replicate
it in 6.02, I was not getting it anymore...? Under 6.01, I had the same
problem of getting multiple names with a sentence structure.
When it was happening, the fix I found was as follows:
With help from this list, I discovered you could get the sentence you want
by using [W] or [W+] in the role sentence instead of the role name [RF:free
wh male 10-16]. When I was unhappy about not getting only the first name,
someone on this list suggested that I add a name variation _without_ a last
name and then select it from the drop down list to achieve the same effect
as the [RF: ] variable.
[W] was probably a free white male, age 10 and under 16,
in [R:Head of Family]'s household, on the 1810 Census
<of [L]>. <[WM].><[M0]>
It works, though a [WF] or [WG] variable would be easier! I am not
implementing the "First name only" name variation except for direct
ancestors with lots of tags.
Regards,
Jan
P.S. If the info you include in [M3] is specific to the person with that
role, you may want to consider using [WM] instead of [M3] and writing the
text into the witness memo. I found the [WM], new with 6.0, perfect for
this kind of customization of census output.

Then why am I getting the following output for my 1810 census tag in a
Journal report (TMG v6.2)?
iii.NATHANIEL HAWKINS was born on 10 Aug 1795.
James and Nathaniel was probably a free white male, age 10
and under 16, in Samuel Magruder's household, on the 1810 Census
of Montgomery county, MD.
iv.JAMES HAWKINS JR was born on 31 Dec 1797. James and
Nathaniel was probably a free white male, age 10 and under 16, in
Samuel Magruder's household, on the 1810 Census of Montgomery
county, MD.
Both have the role of free wh male 10-16 with a default sentence of:
[RF:free wh male 10-16] was probably a free white male,
age 10 and under 16, in [R:Head of Family]'s household, on the
1810 Census <of [L]>. <[M3].><[M0]>
With all the posting to this TMG List, it's a wonder we get anything else
accomplished.
Thanks for your help.
