Dick, this thread, and others from time to time, appear to some users
as attached to unrelated threads for two reasons:
1. Better e-mail clients include in the header of replies a coded
reference to the message being replied to. Thus, if a user of such a
client, when posting a message on a new topic, relies to a previous
message instead of creating a new message from scratch, their message
will include the reference to the previous message.
2. Better e-mail clients offer to create threaded display of related
messages. The one's I've seen do this in two ways. First, they use the
codes embedded in the messages, as described above, when they exist.
Then, they try to match based on the subject line. Thus, users of such
clients see messages on new topics created as described above as
continuation of the previous thread.
