Hi, Richard:

I think this sounds really good but would
have *very* serious shortcomings in practice.
Your approach requires multiple "Exhibit"
records if we want any captions to be
different. This merely shifts the burden
of unnecessary work to those who want a
"Master Image List" that does *not* have
common-sense duplicated records. I would not
find such an approach an improvement.

I think the solution *might* be something
like: a "default caption" MIL field that
is used as the caption for any exhibit for
the image *unless* the caption is overridden
at the exhibit ("local") level. The usage
could be similar to sentence output.

You can't mean what I read you to mean, since
if you did it would be an argument *against*
what I think you propose. So I clearly do not
understand *something* here.

That does not seem at all like a caption to
me, as I have discussed. It seems like a
description of the Image. A caption by
definition has to do with an Image's output
in a specific context, and is the text that
is associated with that *specific* output.
