The External Utilities feature was never in v4.x, it first appeared in
v5.0. If you did not add an External Utility in v5.x then it is not in
v6.05 unless you decide to add an External Utility later.

The feature itself does not have a bug. The "bug" is really that TMG v6.05
is now finding a problem that had been there all along since v5.0. And in
reality, the bug was really an error on the part of the user when they
entered an incorrect External Utility. If the user-added External Utility
was entered correctly then there is no problem.

In earlier versions of TMG, the error-checking system ignored an improperly
entered External Utility menu entry. You can test this by opening the
APP.INI file (in the The Master Genealogist folder) (use NOTEPAD to do
this) and placing the following entry at the end of the file:
[ExternalUtilities]
Utilities2=NotePad,C:\system32\notepad.exe

Then open TMG at the Tools=>External Utilities sub-menu. It will have only
one entry (Windows Character Map). Now, close TMG and re-open the APP.INI
file. Correct the above entry to the correct path for where NOTEPAD is
located on your hard drive. It will be under your Windows folder in the
System32 (or System for older Windows) folder. The Windows folder may be
named WINNT or WINDOWS. After you make the correction, open TMG and now
there should be two External Utilities menu entries -- Character Map and
Notepad.

If there are two entries then when you upgrade to v6.05 then there will be
no problem. On the other hand, if you don't make the above correction then
the newer error-checker on v6.05 will find the problem and report it with
the error message.

Of course, if you never used the External Utilities in v5.x and don't do
any of the above then there will also be no problem of this nature reported
by v6.05 when you open TMG.

Hope this helps -
