The issue of the length of Tag Type labels in TMG5/6 seems to come
down to this:
- In standard English(US) labels are limited to 20 characters.
- In all other languages, the labels can be any length, but only 30
characters display in the tag box, list of tag types, and probably
some other contexts.
I have no idea whether this will change, but I'd suggest not planning
on any changes.
Since I understand that you intend your work as a recommendation for
others to use, my recommendation is to stay with the 20 character
length that works in standard English(US) for the following reasons:
- I'd think you can probably get reasonable labels out of 20
characters.
- Seeing longer labels requires opening up the column widths on the
displays, which is a problem for users with lower resolution monitors.
- Changing to a different language is not trivial, especially if one
has already started the project with the default language and
customized any sentences or created custom tag types.
