Jill,
I'm inclined to go with your second suggestion, because it does show the
patents were granted and not just applied for and will follow citation
format better. Meets both needs nicely. Thanks.
I had gone with the phrase "Granted Patents" because that is how CIPO
described them. I have two pieces of correspondence from CIPO. One is an
email from the helpful Denis Daoust in which he says "the patent number for
these 2 are 21, 669 was registered July 24, 1883 and 32,447 was registered
on September 7, 1889". The second is the invoice from CIPO along with
photocopies of the patents, that lists "Item Number of Description" "61669
Granted Patents" and on the second line "32477 Granted Patents". I have no
idea what 61669 and 32477 mean. What I had to provide to get copies were
the registration dates and the numbers from Dennis. 21,669 and 32,447 are
the numbers from the actual applications.
Reading postings on this list is like an on-line genealogy class. The number
of new concepts you folks made me think about this year has been a bit
overwhelming. I've delayed entering data until now, because it was clear I
didn't know enough about what would best meet the needs for my family
research. It's been worth the delay, because my data will be much better.
All the questions and topics are much appreciated.
