Lets take a step or two back and try to visualize what Chris is suggesting.
You are looking in the Details Window and what do you see.
For the most part, the tags are arranged in date sequence, that is, the date as identified to the tag. Some of the tag though do not show a date and there may be one or two tags which are out of date order.
This tells us that for the tags which are out of date order or which show no date, for these tags the user needed to add a sort date. That is, they need to take some action (change the sort date field) to cause this to happen.
Chris is suggesting that the user no longer be concerned with a sort date. He is suggesting that this tag positioning be at the user's direction but caused by the program. We no longer have a sort date, we have an internal positioning value controlled by the program.
When the added tag contains a date, it be positioned as is presently done. In the new scheme of things, tags which are positioned out of date are not included in this positioning. For the most part then, nothing has changed.
Now we have tags without dates. Presently the user needs to go into the sort field and put in a value to cause the tag to be positioned. Under Chris' suggestion, the users would be asked to position it with their cursor. End result, in both cases, the user takes an action and the tag is positioned.
At this point there really isn't any difference in the outcome, only the method has changed and made easier. The user is no longer concerned with a position sequencing value, as there is none (at least not outwardly), they just drag and drop.
So far so good, this is certainly a win win situation for the user. A sort date no longer exists, everyone understand drag and drop.
Now you say you have witnessed information in this view and it is not positioned correctly. And you say you can't change this.
This is the crux of the problem. The program as presently designed cannot handle it. There is only one date/sort date associated with the tag and it is used for the output for each principal and witness.
Unless the program is changed to assign a date/positioning value for each principal and witness identified to the tag, this suggestion will probably never see the light of day.
