The point I was trying to make is that the Social Security Death Index
tells you nothing about where a person died. My apologies for misreading
your message. However, the fact that the checks were sent to your
father's address also "proves" another point I made: The address in the
SSDI is also NOT the "Last Residence," as labeled in the on-line
indexes. If is the address of record at SSA. Nor can it be said that it
is the address to which the checks are being mailed, at least in most
cases when the checks were sent directly to the bank or, in more recent
years, the money was electronically transferred.
About the only purpose the "Last Residence" field serves is that it can
be a starting point if you are searching for an obituary. The fact that
the person may have lived at the address or that a close relative may
live there means that the local papers may have taken notice of the
death.
