Thanks for the info, all good points. As much as I am a fan of Ancestry.com
and Rootsweb, getting an answer/ support for FTM is very difficult. Seems to
be "take it or leave it", although I have not tried the Rootsweb mailing
list for FTM.

However, of the reviews I've read of differing genealogy programs, the cost
(and ease of use) always seems to be the gripe about TMG. Perhaps TMG should
have a policy of cheaper up front, but higher maintenance costs, thereby
attracting more buyers, hence hopefully cheaper all round in the long run.

Anyway, I'm sorry to take you all away from the point, we all seem to think
TMG is the best (or we wouldn't be here), but it would be nice to have the
"all-in-one" feature as described earlier.

I totally agree with Bill. I am constantly getting upgrade notices from FTM
(which I have never used) and they are always around $30. TMG has been very
reasonable in it's cost, and even with purchasing Second Site and paying a
donation to TMG utility, and buying the videos and Books, I still have less
invested in TMG than I did in Roots III.

Jim,

I would like to correct an impression that many people seem to have, that
TMG is expensive. It is true that TMG costs more to buy initially than FTM,
but it is cheaper in the long (or not so long) run. FTM would like you buy a
(usually minor) upgrade every year for another $30 or so. Except for a major
upgrade, TMG releases are free, and if I remember rightly, my upgrade from
v.5 to v.6 cost me something like $18. This is in addition to the usefulness
of this (tho it is not officially by TMG), and the support available from
Wholly Genes, which is non-existent on FTM.

Bill J.
