Jim,
Primarily, I use embedded citations for commentary footnotes as opposed to
actual sources ... but I occasionally embed actual sources as well. If I
understood Lee correctly, all embedded citations (even if just commentary)
require that a source and surety be attached. I'm okay with having a 'dummy'
source to attach comments to, although I always thought it was unnecessary.

Linda,
You need to clarify. Are you intended to output a citation as the embedded
citation or a text string as the embedded citation (which is a legitimate
undertaking)? I assume a citation from your last response.
