Linda:

I think you are correct, this is a bug...you should be able to enclose text
in the embedded citation codes as you have and have it print as a endnote,
footnote, or embedded with or without parenthesis. Whether you embed with
or without parenthensis you get the {ENC}....{END} codes and I think that
is a bug. It works okay if the output is endnotes or footnotes.
